Find a hobby that set’s you’re soul on fire even as mom’s we need a place to escape sometimes. Having a hobby allows you to find yourself again and even the chance to interact with new people. As a stay at home mom sometimes its nice to get to talk with someone older than 5 years old and have more than an arguing match conversation.

My Happy Place

I found my happy place and a place to escape my stress and ease my mind. For those of you who don’t follow me on social media or know me personally I play Cornhole Competitively. I use to just play for fun until I started practicing more and getting a little more serious with my game. It lets me take a “Break” from my regular everyday things which feels like a never ending list.

My favorite thing about it is that its something you can do with everyone no matter the age. Having a hobby that you’re whole family can do or join in on is awesome especially when you have little ones at home and can’t find a sitter all the time. My hubby also plays Cornhole Competitively and when we do go to tournaments and big events we get a babysitter for our kids so we can focus more on our playing game. I love that it allows me to bond with my hubby as well since he works on the road a lot we don’t get a lot of time together.

What Is Cornhole?

Cornhole or Corn Toss is similar to horseshoes except you use wooden boxes called cornhole boards and corn bags instead of horseshoes and metal stakes. Since the game has been around for over many years they have taken the “corn bags” up to a new level and now a lot of player play with resin bags rather than corn. Most of the tournaments don’t allow corn bags anymore when playing in a competitive level. Players take turns throwing their bags at the cornhole boards until a player reaches the score of 21 points. A bag in the hole scores 3 points, while one on the board scores 1 point.

Scoring can be swift and the lead may change hands several times in a match before the winner is decided.

The game is generally played tournament style with an individual or team being named the champion at the end of the tournament.

Any gender can play the game and take part.

The game can be played as singles meaning just you and an opponent or as double meaning you get a partner and play against someone and their partner. When practicing you can do it on you’re own to work on you’re skill and no one is needed which is super nice especially if you’re wanting some space and to take some quiet time which me as a mom needs that more often. (LOL)

Why Cornhole?

Cornhole like I mentioned above is great for the whole family whether you’re child is 5 years old or you’re grandpa who is 70 literally anyone can play the game. Anyone can get good at this game with some practice. Once you get down the distance to get the bag from hole to hole which is 30 feet you can master anything you put you’re mind to! The game can be played from anywhere the beach, you’re back yard, garage etc it takes seconds to set up and is safe to play with no sharp or pokey objects for anyone to get hurt on. The cornhole boards are not to heavy to carry to get set up or to put away and can be stored almost anywhere you like. We store ours in our garage on a hook where I can grab them easily whenever needed.

Family Is More Than Just Blood

When looking for a hobby to join make sure its something that fits you not anyone else. Do something that makes you happy and something you can give you’re all in and enjoy every moment of it. Playing Cornhole has allowed me to find myself again, yes I am a mom and I love every minute of it but I am so much more than that. I want to challenge myself to grow and be something even more than a mom and show others we can do more than just be moms. I have also been able to meet some many incredible people from all over the USA that I have grown friendships with!

My number 1 will always be being a mom but when our kids grow up and move out and don’t need as much from us anymore as they do now we don’t want to look back wondering why we never did anything for ourselves or trying to find ourselves later in life. Be bold and give it you’re all you kids will one day look up to you for being dependent and seeing you pour you’re heart out to something you’re passionate about.

When I started playing Cornhole I gained a whole family, friendships, & a lot of love. I can’t begin to describe the love I have for the people who have come into not only my life but my families life with this game. I know if I ever need anything even if its not Cornhole related I can go to them and they will be their whenever needed.

Fill Your Heart With Joy

I can truly say I found something I am passionate about and it sets my soul on fire. I will continue to play the game for many years to come. My wish is that one day my kiddos will want to play the game competitively just like me and possible take me up on a partner. The memories Cornhole has brought and will bring in the future are something we will cherish for the rest of our lives and I am forever grateful I choose this as one of my hobbies!

Do you have a hobby? Have you played cornhole before?
