What Is Personal Development?

Personal development is a lifelong process that helps you assess your life goals and up skill to fulfill your potential. It allows you to be proactive and take charge of your actions. You may not always reach your objective but you lead a more fulfilling life because your purpose is defined. Personal development contributes to both satisfaction and success in life.

Personal Development is a way to better understand yourself, your unique personality and potentials, your strengths and weaknesses, your aspirations and your talents. It is a way to improve every aspect of your life. It is a way to realize so many different possibilities and to achieve more than you ever thought was possible.

I would say that people who don’t invest time to develop their personality can never grow. And if they don’t grow they stay small.

Same as a plant need water to grow, people need personal development to grow as a human being.

If you don’t grow, you die. If your relationship is not growing, it is dying. If your bank account is not growing, it’s dying.

To grow you need to learn. How much time in your life have you spent learning how to improve on you as a person?

It is your way to a better life, to become an improved version of yourself. If you think that you don’t have to work on yourself, than you definitely do need to!

Why Should You Being Doing Personal Development

Working on yourself does not mean your not good enough even, the most successful people still continue to work on themselves and grow. Even if they have millions and billions of dollars, they still continue to learn.

For those of you who follow me and know me personally know I play Cornhole competitively and even in this aspect we need personal development to help us grow our game.

Personal Development can help us grow as players on the boards and off the boards. It helps you define your personal vision and life goals more clearly. When you establish targets for yourself, it becomes easier to create a plan and work towards those goals and dreams. The top cornhole player of the world still needs to work on himself as a player because that’s how he continues to be the top player of the world. If he quit working on himself and his game he would eventually see a decrease in not only his game but his mind, goals, dreams, & vision. He is successful because he has worked on himself his mindset, his goals and dreams.

Learning and personal growth are the hallmarks of personal development. You learn from your past mistakes and overcome challenges through education, training and guidance. The more you work on your skills and abilities, the more you discover your hidden potential. You learn to push your boundaries and explore new thing’s because you know how to best utilize your knowledge.

Personal development is empowering as it lets you take control of thing’s. Since there is constant improvement, you feel more confident and motivated. Your productivity increases and your performance gives you satisfaction. When you acknowledge your shortcomings, you hold yourself accountable for your mistakes. This level of self-awareness helps you look at the bigger picture and not beat yourself up about thing’s that are beyond your control.

Where To Start?

If you are new to personal development and you want to start to develop your personality and character, you might not know where to start. It can be difficult to choose where to start because you have so many options.

Personal development is a huge industry and has a lot to offer, from online courses, Youtube, podcasts, books, yoga, fitness and meditation programs to life coaching and individual counseling.

Start small. It is better that you start with something than nothing. I personally started personal development when I started my online business. I never really knew much about it until the network marketing company I am with now highly encouraged it and did multiple training’s on it. Now looking back I wish I would have been doing it sooner.

I would start with 15-20 mins a day. I know what your going to say next is that you are busy and don’t have the time. Listen I am a mom of 2, I have a husband, online business, and I play cornhole competitively, plus everyday thing’s life throws at us. I listen to podcasts while cooking supper, doing laundry or getting my kiddos ready for school. You could start listening to a motivational podcast on your way to work, or while your working out. Let me tell you inspirational and motivational podcasts set my day up for success. Listening to them early morning while setting up for the day get me motivated and my mind ready to crush the day. I also listen to online business/network marketing podcasts & YouTube videos these are all free options which I highly encourage. You can also look up podcasts or YouTube videos that could be about a hobby your into that could help you grow your game as a person and new skills.

Below I will be leaving you a list of the podcasts, books, and YouTube videos I use and you can check those out.

If you spend at least 15 minutes every day learning something new, that means that you are investing time in yourself. Good investments have returns. The return of this investment will be a better quality of life.

Tips To Personal Development

1. Don’t Compare Yourself To Others

  • Do not compare your journey to someone else’s journey. Personal Development is a personal thing and we are all on this journey at our own pace. Stay focused and even when your process seems slow keep going! Celebrate the small wins and never give up.

2. Enjoy The Journey

  • Personal growth is not a quick success thing the process is slow and honestly a lifetime commitment. Don’t expect perfection and learn to enjoy the journey and the thing’s you’re learning daily.

3. The Grass Grows Greener Where You Water It

  • During your life and personal development journey, there will be times when setbacks cause you to doubt yourself and your abilities. Never give in to the inner voices that tell you’re not good enough or that people who have found success in an area that important to you are in some way superhuman.
